Pro-life leader Marjorie Dannenfelser criticized the light sentence and current U.S. laws that allow abortion medications to be prescribed via telehealth, highlighting the need for stronger legal consequences and more active prosecution in cases of forced abortion. Abbas obtained the abortion drugs using his estranged wife's identification and forced Affholder to ingest them despite her intention to keep the pregnancy, leading to felony charges including unlawfully distributing abortion-inducing drugs and identity fraud, to which he pleaded no contest. Dannenfelser and Senator Bernie Moreno called for greater accountability from political figures and the Department of Justice, while noting a lack of public response from pro-choice advocates and Planned Parenthood regarding the case.
